Alicia Keys Wears Beaded Headpiece At Met Gala Alongside Her Husband, Swizz Beatz

Alicia Keys brought threads of history, heritage and personal legacy to the Met Gala when she arrived on the red carpet adorned in ruby red-beaded brilliance.
The “Lifeline” singer appeared on the red carpet alongside her husband Swizz Beatz. The two wore complementary bright red and burgundy pin stripe suits, with Keys elevating her look with a puffer, floor-length shawl and a beaded headpiece. The look was designed by French-based fashion house Moncler.
Kpoene Kofi-Bruce, a designer and fashion historian, noted the duality in the couple’s Moncler ensembles to TODAY.com.
“Alicia is also referencing the Egyptian style with her hand-beaded headpiece,” Kofi-Bruce said. “I love the way Moncler played with volume for both Alicia and Swizz Beats, creating a streamlined strapless peplum look and a strong-shouldered suit, and then also managed to create the illusion of a fluffy fur stole with the pinstriped material.”
Kimberly Jenkins, a cultural scholar, applauded the singer for wearing her beaded crown with intention.
“The beaded headdress reminds me of the 1920s but then when I saw a more contextualized photo of her with her husband Swizz Beats, where he was wearing — similar to Teyana Taylor — a red durag, they kind of reminded me of an era in the 1970s where you would see the black man and woman standing together with this “Black is Beautiful” look,” she commented. “They’re suiting, however, seemed to solidly reference the Harlem Renaissance once again.”
